Look Again: Gates of Hell

I don't think it means what you think it means...
Matthew 16:18

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
I've noticed that there is a perception that this means that the forces of hell shall not overcome heaven.  Um, gates are used to keep people in or out. The passage refers to the gates of hell, not of heaven. The gates of hell would be keeping lost and despairing people in and those who want to rescue them out. But that, you know, sounds all universalist.
