Hehehehehe. I love rat terriers, to be sure. I have two. But there is just something about a little dashchund, a.k.a wiener dog. And today in the greater Pittsburgh area, the local amusement park, Kennywood, will be having the 3rd annual dashchund race, the Wiener 100, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. One of the entrants is a handicapped dog who will be racing with his wheel-harness. He is very cute. Later today or tomorrow the local paper plans to post video of the event, so if you want to watch for it with me keep and eye on this story link. No matter who crosses the finish line first, they will all be... wieners. :^)
UPDATE: Ahh... Little Asher, the wienie in the wheelchair, fell over in his chair right before the start of the race, but he did manage to finish the race after he was reset and once he spotted his human. (See the video of the event)

Be well
For Our Furry Friends
Ten thousand blessings to all of our furry friends who are in need of prayers. May they be comfortable, healthy, and blessed with joy and companionship. May their eyes shine brightly and may they know that they are loved.

Dogs and sugar-free sweets
I have two cute lil' ratties who like to sniff for crumbs or sneak a peak in the big forbidden box of delights (the kitchen trash), so I try to keep up on what foods might be dangerous to them. If you have a pup and want to keep him or her safe, add one more to the list -

Dog owners warned against sugar-free items
Commonly used artificial sweetener can cause canine liver failure
Updated: 7:10 p.m. ET Sept 29, 2006
NEW YORK - Keep those sugarless treats out of Fido’s reach. Veterinarians warned Friday that a commonly used sweetener might cause liver failure in dogs, and perhaps even kill them.
Their report in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association appears to strengthen the suspected link between the sugar substitute xylitol, thought to make dogs sick, and possible liver failure.
Xylitol, a naturally occurring product, is found in many sugar-free chewing gums, candies, baked goods and toothpastes.

Sharing a message from Max
Woof...
Who have I been neglecting today? Who have you?
Do we notice those who look at us with the longing for connection? Do we appreciate the love being showered upon us by those far and near? Or are we too wrapped up in our own problems and shortcomings to notice?
What do you consider to be a "good use" of your time?
Sometimes we age so slowly before your eyes that you do not even seem to know, until the very end, when we look at you with grizzled muzzles and cataract clouded eyes. Still the love is always there, even when we take that long sleep, to run free in distant lands.
I may not be here tomorrow; I may not be here next week. Someday you will shed the waters from your eyes, that humans have when deep grief fills their souls, and you will be angry at yourself that you did not have just "One more day" with me.
Because I love you so, your sorrow touches my spirit and grieves me. We have now, together. So come, sit down here next to me on the floor. And look deep into my eyes. What do you see? If you look hard and deep enough we will talk, you and I, heart to heart...
