Absolute best book to read for Christianity?

Barring the Bible or one of its constituent books, because that is too easy and obvious, if you had to recommend a single book to someone, a single book to really convey what you think is most important for someone in 2010 to know about Christianity, what would it be?  What book really reflects the heart of Christianity in a way that can connect with and speak deeply to the reader?  (And why?)

  1. The Practice of The Presence of God by Brother Lawrence. Why? Because it's the first book I recall reading that really nailed the servant nature of following Christ.

  2. Interesting, I've never heard of it.

  3. It's a very quick read. Make sure you find a well reviewed translation, and not an abridged copy. Some of them read terribly.

  4. Bonhoeffer, Letters and Papers from Prison

very important theolgocial and personal speculations on theology and practice for any post-Christendom attempts at xianity or 'following Christ' of whatever we decide to call it.

Don't get me wrong, Bonhoeffer wasn't a saint. (AMOF, he didn't even want to be a saint.) But definitely an extemely interesting guy speaking out of an incredibly difficult situation.
